So do I tell him this…or just keep avoiding the subject?

October 29, 2015

Thursday mornings on the Karen and Ralphie morning show, Karen gives some personal advice. It’s ask Karen! From problems big and small, Karen gives her take on life, love, work and everything in between! If you’re interested in asking Karen a question, click here.

Dear Karen,

I started dating a guy back in the summer…we really hit it off. Now that it’s fall he suggested we go North to New Hampshire around Franconia Notch and see the foliage. My husband passed a few years ago and what he doesn’t know is…that area is very special to me. My husband and I would go to New Hampshire all the time on vacation. It reminds me of him and I don’t think I could handle it. I would be very emotional. There are too many memories there.

So do I tell him this…or just keep avoiding the subject?

Jessica in Mashpee

Karen’s Answer…
It’s up to you if you want to share this with him. If you don’t you’ll have to avoid New Hampshire for as long you’re with him which could be a very long time.

My suggestion: be honest…tell him that’s a place you and your husband frequented and you want to make NEW memories with him. If you do decide to share this with him you should be prepared to suggest places you and he could go. Your honesty may actually bring you closer.

I wish you the best of luck in your new relationship!

Karen
