Here's this morning's challenge question: According to research out of Brigham Young University, the more of this your student gets, the more likely his or her grades are to suffer. More of what?
This flies in the face of everything I've ever been led to believe - but it's SLEEP!
Seems that the optimal amount of sleep is actually shorter as the teens get older - while 10-year olds should be getting at least 9 hours a night, older teens seem to thrive best on 6-7 hours. Good news in our house, where the texting goes on way past the point I'm in bed...
Doesn't explain, though, the whole sleeping-till-one-in-the-afternoon-unless-I-absolutely-have-to-be-somewhere phenomenon, though!
Karen got it right this morning - now she'll enjoy dinner or lunch at Alberto's on us.

Here's this morning's challenge question: According to research out of the University of Connecticut, even a mild level of THIS can affect a person's ability to think clearly (their mood, energy level, and memory too!) The effect is even greater in women. Level of what?
It's DEHYDRATION.
I have been preaching about this to those that know me for so long - it's so cool to get justification from a study! It takes a lot more clear fluid than we think to help our bodies function optimally... once you get used to taking it in, you notice the drastic difference when you DON'T drink enough water! Here's the formula:
http://nutrition.about.com/library/blwatercalculator.htm
Now - read about what this study says happens if you don't get enough:

Congratulations to Marlaine - she got it right this morning, and has promised to drink a big glass of water along with the meal she's won from Alberto's!

Here's this morning's challenge question - since April of 1910, every U.S. President EXCEPT Jimmy Carter has done this, at least once. Done what?
They've THROWN OUT THE CEREMONIAL OPENING DAY PITCH AT A BASEBALL GAME!
President Taft started the opening-day tradition back in 1910... Carter did, however, get his shot at throwing out a first pitch - at the 1979 World Series.
David got it this morning - now he'll enjoy lunch or dinner on us at Alberto's.

Here's this morning's challenge question: The average length of this in the U.S. is 12-14 months. Length of what?
Bit of a softball for a Friday - the answer's ENGAGEMENTS!
This morning's winner, Julie, was engaged for longer than that - but the wait was worth it; her anniversary's 11/11/11!
We propose that Julie propose... a night out at Albertos's with the $30 gift card she's won for getting it right.

Here's this morning's challenge question: You're more likely to be doing this at 3PM on a Wednesday afternoon than any other time during the week. Doing what?
It's INTERACT ON FACEBOOK!
Consistently the highest traffic times are 11AM, 3PM, and 8PM... but Wednesday at 3 has always been the peak usage time. Sundays, by the way, are the slowest days on Facebook.
A double congratulations to Mary, our winner this morning - she was especially happy to win the $30 gift card to Albertos since she has an anniversary coming up, and it's a leap year anniversary - so she only gets to celebrate once every four years. Glad we could help to make it special!

Here's this morning's challenge question: According to researchers in Israel, if you're looking to lose weight, you have a better chance of sustaining and maintaining your weight loss if you add a bit of this to your breakfast. Bit of what?
OK, brace yourself - this may not be the answer you're expecting... it's DESSERT!
Read on - I guess the logic makes sense...
http://www.upi.com/Health_News/2012/02/14/Breakfast-with-dessert-helps-weight-loss/UPI-85751329245972/
We should stress, though, that if you're diabetic, this simply doesn't apply - your doctor approved protocol should be your priority.
John heard about this on the news - and conjured up a happy image of chocolate cake for breakfast in his answer this morning. John's won a $30 gift card to Alberto's for getting it right!

Here's this morning's challenge question: According (you guessed it!) to the Annual Harlequin Romance Report, the single women surveyed said this was the number one turn-on for them when it comes to men. What?
It's not a man's eyes, his smile, his hands, his commitment to family, or even his thoughtfulness - it's his SENSE OF HUMOR.
I agree - I love to laugh!
Bruce says he doesn't have a good sense of humor - but the twinkle in his voice when he said it and the fact that he's been married to his wife, Ruth, for 27 years make me not believe him.
He got it right this morning - now he and Ruth can enjoy a Valentine's dinner or lunch at Alberto's!

Here's this morning's challenge question: According (again!) to Harlequin's Annual Romance Report, this is the word that the most (75%) singles used to describe their dating life. What's the word?
Ho, hum... it's BORING!
Although considering the number one guess on the air this morning was "challenging/complicated," I guess that's not necessarily a bad thing!
It was Sheila who got in there first with the right answer this morning - now we've spiced up her dating life (and yes - she's single!) with a $30 gift card to Alberto's.

Here's this morning's challenge question: In an annual Romance Report from Harlequin (this report, by the way, is usually a rich source for questions!!) the women surveyed cited this as their top specific MEDIA source for romantic advice. What?
It's COSMOPOLITAN!!
That, to me, is more than a little frightening.
Judy, who works at the South Dennis Post Office, handles more than her fair share of monthly issues - wonder if she picks up all that great advice by osmosis...
Her quick answer, though, definitely boosted her love life - she's won lunch or dinner at Alberto's Ristorante for getting it right!

Here's this morning's challenge question: The folks at CouponCabin.com did a singles survey regarding dating behavior - and came up with a list of "datebreakers" - dating missteps that will cost you another date if you make one. Poor hygiene and checking your electronic devices too frequently were the top two - what was the third behavior on the list?
Plenty of dating wisdom in your answers this morning, for sure.
It was PJ, though, who came through with it - TREATING YOUR SERVER RUDELY.
John Tesh mentions this one a lot - it's a sure indicator that the person you're with is probably not terribly pleasant to be around over the long haul...
Here's the top ten list, with thanks to our friends at Dial-Global:
-
10 - Using websites or social media (e.g. Facebook) to find out information before the date – 26%
-
9 - Talking about a potential long-term future together – 30%
-
8 - Not offering to pay for the whole date, or at least to pay for their share – 33%
-
7 - Aggressive driving – 49%
-
6 - Date drinking too much alcohol – 60%
-
5 - Flirting with the server or host/hostess – 61%
-
4 - Talking too much about an ex – 70%
-
3 - Being rude to a server or host/hostess – 73%
-
2 - Using their mobile phone too much; constantly texting, checking email – 75%
-
1 - Poor hygiene, (e.g. body odor, bad teeth, and dirty hair)
PJ is hopeful that whoever she takes to Alberto's with the $30 gift card she's won this morning exhibits none of these behaviors! ;)
