LOS ANGELES (AP) — There may be something familiar about 5 Seconds Of Summer’s song “Hey Everybody” to fans of ’80s music. Bassist Calum Hood says he played the riff of that song for Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, who started singing the melody of Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like The Wolf.” Hood says it was a subconscious thing but he kept it because people seemed to like it. Singer Luke Hemmings says they didn’t think, “We like the song. Let’s take the melody.” He says it happened naturally and they dealt with it afterward. The 5 Seconds Of Summer song “She’s Kinda Hot” is also reminiscent of My Chemical Romance’s song “Teenagers.” Guitarist Michael Clifford acknowledges they are similar but he says it’s because both are classic 12-bar blues.
