NEW YORK (AP) — The man who helped create “Yo! MTV Raps” has died. His brother says Peter Dougherty died October 12 of a heart attack outside New York. He was 59. Dougherty worked in MTV’s promotions department and came up with the idea of a rap show with colleague Ted Demme. MTV did not give much attention to rap in those days. “Yo! MTV Raps” was an instant hit when it began in 1988. Dougherty also directed the video for The Pogue’s “Fairytale of New York.”
