This Week’s Question
Dear Karen,
I have lived in my neighborhood for 11 years and I have new neighbors that moved in about 3 months ago. They seemed nice enough but they have no consideration. The husband goes to work very early in the morning like 4am and warms up his car for at least 20 minutes while his headlights shine right on the front of my house into my bedroom and the bedroom of my 5 year old son. Now my son is up crying every morning at that very early hour. At first, I just let it go thinking it was a temporary thing and he would wake up and realize what he was doing but this has gone on for weeks now.
I went over one day and politely asked him if he could just use his parking lights when his car warmed up and that his bright lights were waking up me and my son…but he didn’t care.
This is driving me crazy! Any ideas for me?

Karen’s Response
Hi Lilliana,
I feel for you. Inconsiderate people are very hard to deal with or understand. Since you already confronted him and he didn’t care then I would suggest you go to the Sandwhich police and ask them if they have nuisance laws. If so, they may go to your neighbors home when he’s actually shining his lights on your house and ask him to stop or at least point them in another direction that will not affect you or any other neighbors.
If not, then I would suggest getting room darkening shades and curtains. Between both of those things it should block out most your neighbors early morning annoyances.
